A nearby transiting rocky exoplanet that is suitable for atmospheric investigation

چکیده
Spectroscopy of transiting exoplanets can be used to investigate their atmospheric properties and habitability. Combining radial velocity (RV) transit data provides additional information on exoplanet physical properties. We detect a rocky planet with an orbital period 1.467 days around the nearby red dwarf star Gliese 486. The 486 b is 2.81 Earth masses 1.31 radii, uncertainties 5%, as determined from RV photometric light curves. host at distance ~8.1 parsecs, has J-band magnitude ~7.2, observable both hemispheres Earth. On basis these planet's short high equilibrium temperature, we show that this terrestrial suitable for emission spectroscopy.

A Smaller Radius for the Transiting Exoplanet
We present photometry of WASP-10 during a transit of its short–period Jovian planet. We employed the novel PSF–shaping capabilities of the OPTIC camera mounted on the UH 2.2m telescope to achieve a photometric precision of 4.7 × 10 per 1.3 min sample. With this new light curve, in conjunction with stellar evolutionary models, we improve on existing measurements of the planetary, stellar and orb...
متن کاملTransiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite
The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) will search for planets transiting bright and nearby stars. TESS has been selected by NASA for launch in 2017 as an Astrophysics Explorer mission. The spacecraft will be placed into a highly elliptical 13.7-day orbit around the Earth. During its 2-year mission, TESS will employ four wide-field optical charge-coupled device cameras to monitor at l...

متن کاملPhotometric Precision for the Transiting Exoplanet
We seek to fully characterize all noise contributions along the CCD and electronics signal path specific to the equipment to be used on board the TESS all-sky space observatory. We adjust physical variables in such a way as to minimize this noise and achieve a photometric precision limited in large part by shot noise. Ultimately, the goal is to demonstrate in the lab, by analyzing photon data g...
متن کاملSearch for an Atmospheric Signature of the Transiting Exoplanet HD 149026
HD149026b is a short-period, Saturn-mass planet that transits a metalrich star. The planet radius, determined by photometry, is remarkably small compared to other known transiting planets, with a heavy element core that apparently comprises ∼ 70% of the total planet mass. Time series spectra were obtained at Keck before and during transit in order to model the RossiterMcLaughlin effect. Here, w...
